Picnic spots are all over the Smoky Mountain National Park (Near the Little River by Sugarlands Visitor Center, In Greenbrier, Cosby, Cades Cove to name a few) where you'll find a picnic table and a fire grate waiting for you. It's also possible to reserve picnic pavilions in case you're here with a big group...we've seen lots of youth groups, church retreats, and family reunions.

Fishing is also allowed year-round with a TN or NC fishing licence (available at many spots including local hardware stores and grocery stores...let us know if you need help finding one) Visit a park visitor center for all their regulations and info about what species to look for.

Hubby and I hit the home improvement/outlet stores the other day. We LOVE looking for great ways to improve The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com. It's one of the coolest parts of owning a vacation rental cabin. Even little things like choosing a fresh new scent for the bathrooms, or flowers for one of our gardens (just got them in before the rain this afternoon :- ) ) is great. We got some really nice new seating (swings too) for the decks...looks fab.

We want our guests to leave here totally happy with their choice for a rental cabin. There are plenty of them out there, and we appreciate every one who chooses ours.

The summer months are filling quickly, and we'll be posting all those happy reviews as they come in!

The Dolly Parade is May 7 at 6:00 pm. Grand Marshall? Dolly Parton, of course--it's her annual homecoming. (She frequently makes unannounced appearances all over town, too)

Parade starts on the Parkway (the main route through Pigeon Forge) traffic light 3, ending at light 6. 100 groups march including bands, twirlers, cheerleaders, dance teams and even performers from local theatres. As if that weren't enough, there are clowns, animals and tons of music. Oh, and don't forget the candy...if you're a good catch!

Get there early! This is a popular event each year, and the parade route fills up well before the 6 o'clock start.

The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com is not yet booked for that weekend. We're a short drive from the parade.

AND don't forget the Smokies would be a great place to also celebrate Mother's Day, that Sunday, the 9th.

Mermaids at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

MERMAIDS AT RIPLEY'S AQUARIUM

So, you walk into somebody's cabin, carefully chosen for the big family (or whatever) getaway, and you soon feel like an intruder. This is obviously someone else's personal getaway spot, and, in order to manage their monthly payments, they grudgingly allow you to rent it. So, maybe it's clean...or maybe not. How long's it been since that hot tub was drained? Is it cluttered with the owners "stuff" ... all making you feel like an interloper? Like you shouldn't touch?

Since most rental cabins in the Smokies are folks' second homes, it happens...a lot.

Or, you can rent from someone whose goal is to make you happy...someone who is really pleased to have you there because they have been working toward that goal, not toward their own vacation. Someone who is local, spends time improving, updating, and (This Is Important) cleaning. Someone ready to help you, because they don't live three states away, if you need anything.

Check out our guest reviews. They get it!
